“SEND” is a 3 year plan for the First Christian Family to grow our relationships with the 25 local, stateside, & foreign missionaries that we support. Our three-fold connection is for everyone to become involved as we PRAY, GIVE, & GO.
The 25 hours prayer vigil was a great time of connecting with the Lord as 91 people kept a continuous time of prayer going in a special prayer room at FCC. Please continue to pray for this program as we begin to put our feet & hands into action very soon. And for the many who have asked, yes we plan to have another such prayer time in 2010.
The initial giving for the SEND program has given us a good base to start planning the projects we can undertake for our various missionaries. As of January 10th our SEND offering total is $6,653.00. As we’ve shared in previous publications this offering will first help fund project expenses such as blocks to build a security fence in Haiti, food to fee students at the UT Christian Student Fellowship, and other programming expenses. Secondly the offering will help offset the costs for individuals who commit to going on trips. If you haven’t given to the SEND program or would like to make another contribution envelopes are available at the info table and the prayer table at FCC.
So when & where will you go? Every member of the FCC family is challenged to at some point during this 3 year program — to GO & connect with one of our missionaries. Regardless of your age, gifts or time, I believe there is a missionary that God would have each of us to connect with. The enclosed pages give you a detailed description of each of the 2010 projects. Please take time to read what your church family is going to be doing for the Kingdom and prayerfully consider where it is God would have you to be involved. The final item enclosed is a commitment card for you & your family. You may sign up as an individual or as a family. More commitment cards are available on the Info table if you need them. Please drop off your commitment card at the info table, in the offering plate on Sunday, or mail it back to the church office. Commitment cards can also be completed on line at www.fcc-cookeville.org.
Let’s SEND, Let’s GO,
Allen
Two in house projects @ FCC that are ongoing throughout the year are the local Benevolence and FCC Food Pantry. A new member has already become involved in the Benevolence ministry and there is always room for more. Please contact Scott Francis at the church office on Thursday or Friday if you would like to know more about the Benevolence Ministry. As you most likely have heard our Food Pantry saw more requests in the 2nd half of 2009 than ever before. Thanks to everyone who has responded in a great way as we are now keeping up with those requests. We would like to extend the hours of our Food Pantry. Volunteers would be needed to staff the Food Pantry to make this possible. If you would like to be involved in this ministry please contact Peggy Harris at 372-9258 or complete & return a SEND Commitment card.
Locally this year FCC plans to become more involved with the Cookeville Pregnancy Clinic. Two middle school girls, Maddie & Olivia, have started collecting needed supplies. In addition to supplies such as diapers & wipes, volunteers are needed at the CPC to work in the supplies room, reception, working with and/or counseling clients. If you are interested in working a 4 hour shift any Monday, Wednesday, or Friday please contact Danny Wilson and he will get you in contact with the appropriate people at CPC. Danny can be reached at 261-3856.
In 2010 there will be two trips to get more acquainted with and serve the Christian Student Fellowship @ Universtiy of Tennessee. Rick Brown has lined up the first trip for Sunday, April 18th. A group will leave FCC at 1:30 pm to GO prepare, fix, and serve a meal to the students at the Student Fellowship. Following the meal will be a time to worship and then clean up before returning home. So far Ray & Inez Crowe and Sharon Gaither have committed to join the Brown’s (Rick & Georgianna). This trip is open to high school juniors & seniors as well as all adults. No limit on the number of individuals we can take, the more we have to GO the better. Each participant will be asked to pay $5 to cover their food & transportation. If you would like to be a part of this trip contact Rick at 704-0849.
You can also contact Rick if you are interested in a one day trip this summer to the UT Student Fellowship House to do some maintenance projects, painting, making curtains and other projects yet to be determined.
Our original plans to connect with White Fields Overseas to Cuba were moved up to another White Fields location in the Country of Haiti. John Wright is leading this trip geared towards evangelism. With the countries recent earthquake exact plans are still being determined, however the primary mission of White Fields and this trip is evangelism through teaching & preaching. Matt Phillips will be joining John to do computer tech work for a local church & school. Travel dates are currently scheduled for March 5th through the 13th. There is a possibility of 2 more openings on this trip to Gonaives, Haiti. Approximate costs before any SEND scholarships are applied will be $1500 plus passport and shots.
With summer comes our annual Church Camp program at Pickett State Park. If you would like to connect with the Upper Cumberland Christian Fellowship & serve students of the Upper Cumberland Christian Churches as a dorm parent, teacher, cook, nurse, or family leader, please contact Mike Carmen or Allen Morris at the church office or send an e-mail to allen@fcc-cookeville.org. Obviously staff needs are generally for the entire week but there are some positions that are one or two day needs. Our scheduled dates for this summer camps are the weeks of June 13-18 and June 20-25.
July 14-22 will be a trip to serve with His Seed Sowers in Jeremie, Haiti. This trip will be led by a native of Haiti and current Johnson Bible College Professor, Jerome Prinston. The trip has a limit of 12 participants. Those committed thus far are Bruce Greene, John Wilson, Faron Smith & Mike Carmen. This trip is open to any individual high school age & older. An individual cost will be around $1200, not including passports and shots. One of our primary projects is to help complete a block security fence around the school grounds in Jeremie. There will also be other projects working with kids, clothing, maintenance, serving food, and other such needs to be determined closer to the time of this trip. We are limited to 12 people from FCC, please talk with Allen Morris at the church office 526-4241 (allen@fcc-cookeville.org) or Bruce Greene at 528-9168, if you have questions about this project.
The final project of 2010 will be a trip to Central India Christian Mission in October. This trip has the tentative dates of October 9th thru the 20th. The primary project will involve teaching, preaching, leading workshops & giving devotions for a 4-day Youth Conference that reaches out to nearly 3000 young people. Mickie Cross has committed to this trip and we have room for at least 3 more individuals from FCC to join the team. Those from FCC will be part of a 16 member team with two other churches. Other involvement with the CICM during the trip are yet to be determined. Airfare will play a big part in final costs at this time, the best estimate is $2,500 — $3,000 before the SEND scholarship money is applied. Please talk with Mike Carmen at the church office, 526-4241, about this project.
